Cables

Connector cable SCSI

  • Problem: After stimulation, the stimulus artifact is not visible on the program.
    • Solution: Check to make sure that the connection is secure on both ends of the cable.
  • Problem: The cable is very sensitive to the touch/movement.
    • Solution: DO NOT TOUCH this cable during the course of an experiment.
This cable is a 68 pin SCSI cable specifically manufactured for the MED 64 connector. It has the tendency to pick up external electrical activity very easily. Therefore, a simple touch or movement can disrupt the signal for a few seconds, which may be detrimental to a sensitive experiment.

In addition, covering the cable with foil may help with the reduction of electrical noise.

MED amplifier cable SCSI

  • Problem: Upon stimulation, the stimulus artifact is not visible on the sight of the electrode.
    • Electrodes 1-32 and 33-64 are reversed. Switch the two SCSI cables b/c they are in the opposite position.
  • Problem: After stimulation, the stimulus artifact is not visible on the Performer.
    • Solution: Check to make sure that the SCSI cables are completely secured into the MED64 amp and the NI-DAQ card slots.

Electrode (black, for stimulation)

  • Problem: After stimulation, the stimulus artifact is not visible on the program.
    • Solution: Check to make sure that the connection is secure on both ends of the cable; if this is secure, then try using a new cable. If problems continue to persist, after attempting all possible solutions above, revert to the AMP section under 'connector/switch errors.'

Female plugs (front)

  • What are they?
    • These connections are used for manual stimulation with the use of the MED64 system. The stimulation source (V1, F1, V2, F2) and that signal is relayed to a selected electrode 1-64.

BNC plugs (back)

  • What are they?
    • These are output connections for external analysis, i.e. oscilloscope, speakers, etc.

Manual
