MED64 System

Acquire continuous, reliable, long-term evoked and spontaneous activity across 64 channels with two-dimensional, real-time analysis of neuronal/ myocardial activity .

MED64 BROCHURE

Features

1. Simultaneous recording across 64 channels

  • Signals (evoked potentials and/or spontaneous activity) are acquired across an array of 64 micro-electrodes patterned on the patented MED probe.
  • Any electrodes on the array (up to four) and/or external electrodes can be used for stimulation.

2. High S/N recording and various applications

  • Because of the low-impedance of micro-electrodes (typically 7-10 k ohm at 1 kHz), signals can be acquired easily even from acute slices.
  • It is well suited for experiments on acute slice as wells slice (and dissociated) cultures. It is the powerful solution for drug evaluation.
  • It is possible to acquire slow-wave signals such as fEPSP or even signals from smooth muscle tissue (around 0.1 Hz) as well as high-frequency signals such as spike activities.

3. Low Noise and Easy-to-use

  • Because of its low-impedance-electrodes, the MED64 system does not require special shielded environment. It creates high data reproducibility.
  • Stimulus sites can be switched quickly and easily on the front panel of the MED64 amplifier.
  • User friendly and highly sophisticated software guides you through experimental setup including stimulation parameters as well as data recording and on-line (off-line) analysis.

4. Long-term observation

  • Dissociated cells and slice explants can be cultured directly on the MED probe.
  • MED probe and connector can be placed in humidified incubator. Because of the low-impedance of electrodes, the MED64 system needs no blocking pre-amplifier required on connector.
  • Responses can be recorded for days to months without any damage by planar electrodes.

Componets

Amplifier

  • Reliable, low-frequency, high-bandwidth, 64-channel amplifier based on Technics high fidelity audio technology
  • Samples at a max rate of 20 kHz/ch
  • Built-in stimulator allows users to study the effects of realistic spatio-temporal stimulation patterns by programming complex induction sequences from any of the four built-in stimulation units and two external inputs
  • Fast, easy switching

Connector

  • Used for communication between the MED64 probe and amplifier
  • Provides a stable platform for the MED64 probe
  • Multi-layer electrical shielding rejects hum noise and provides excellent signal-to-noise ratios
  • No onboard electrical circuits; connectors can be placed in high-humidity environments

Probe

  • Biological acute or culture preparations are placed directly into the MED64 probe
  • The MED64 probe allows users to stimulate and record samples using 64 planar microelectrodes in an 8 x 8 array
  • Arrays are available in four different inter-electrode spacings; 100, 150, 300 and 450 m
  • Each patented micro-electrode measures 50 m x 50 m - except for the 100 m spacing configuration, with micro-electodes measuring 20 m x 20 m
  • Probes come in 5 mm (for use with synchronized glass electrode recording) and 10 mm well heights
  • Probes use Panasonic's Liquid Crystal Display technology

Software

  • MED64 Mobius™ software is the data acquisition and analysis software for
the MED64 system with an abundant set of analysis functions. It is a highly-sophisticated software and suits several types of experimental needs.

MED64 Mobius™ is available in various package including "EP measurement" and "Spike Sorter" as well as a combined package. It is flexible software consisting of various "modules". Users can design their own experimental workflow by using "Mobius editor", while they start with simple experiment quickly by using various "Mobius templates".
